School facilities professionals play a critical role in the state's education system. Today's school buildings and campuses are complicated, and so is the job of maintaining them. SBGA supports the welfare of our State's schools, buildings and grounds, and the professionals responsible for managing our children's educational facilities.
Studies link well-maintained, healthy, and safe learning environments to greater student achievement and higher test scores. An investment in our school facilities is a sound investment in our students' future.
2013 School Facilities Innovative IDEAS Conference & Expo
School Facilities Management Innovative Ideas Conference a Big Hit
The 2013 SFMI Innovative Ideas Conference was a huge success! Professionals from New York State and beyond gathered for SBGA’s Annual Conference and Expo from September 28 through October 2 at the City Center and Hilton Hotel in Saratoga Springs. The theme Innovative Ideas held up to its reputation as attendees learned the positive side of the changes that are undergoing in the school environment.
The two-day expo was an extraordinary, sold out event! New this year were 10 minute demos on the expo floor that allowed attendees to witness firsthand the different possible products and services from our numerous vendors.
Attendees were excited to receive a gift card and sticker when they were “caught” for doing business with a vendor. “I Got Caught!” interactive giveaway program is a great way to energize our attendees while increasing the business of our vendors!
Innovative ideas were shared as we had internationally-known speakers discuss important topics relating to school facilities. Mark Levin, CAE, CSP, Author and Professional Speaker discussed the ways to maximize resources that are available and techniques to create new opportunities for professional growth. We had the opportunity to hear from Paul Timm, PSP, President from RETA Security, Inc. who explained the best practices for ensuring a safe learning environment to New York State students. With social media continuing to cultivate we had the pleasure of listening in on Jim Spellos, President of Meeting U, who acknowledged the most critical tech tools that are impacting our industry.
With the New Year ahead we are transitioning to new leadership. We want to thank Claude “Tink” Wright for serving as our 2013 President and congratulate him on a job well done. We also want to congratulate Keith Watkins, RDF of Marcellus CSD, for becoming our 2014 President. We look forward to the continued hard work and success that the Association demonstrates.
Each year the outgoing President has the opportunity to recognize a colleague for their extraordinary contributions to this Association and this profession. This year’s recipient was Brian Bentley, CDF. Mr. Bentley has been a member of the Association for nearly 20 years, he served several leadership roles within his Chapter, including President, and President of this Association. We want to congratulate Brian on receiving the President’s Award.
Thank you to everyone who made this year’s conference and expo a huge success!
