SFMI Announces 3rd Annual School Facility Managers’ Academy

Register Today and Join Us December 2-3, 2008

Each year SFMI offers an extensive, all-inclusive School Facility Managers’ Academy, designed to meet the educational and administrative training needs of school facilities personnel. The emphasis of this one-and-a-half event is on state code compliance and leadership skill development.

Join us December 2-3, 2008 for our 3rd annual Academy at the New York State School Boards Association building in Latham, located in the Capital District, just north of Albany. If you’re new to the field of facilities management, or looking for a refresher course in code compliance this is the training opportunity for you. Topics include the latest information on code compliance, administrative skill development, how to manage personnel, operations and maintenance budget development, addressing health and safety issues and more.

At the Academy, you’ll learn about:

  • Capital projects and bidding
  • Building maintenance, grounds care and IPM standards
  • O&M budget preparation
  • Comprehensive safety planning and public safety
  • Annual personnel training requirements
  • RESCUE, SAVE and PESH requirements
  • Mechanical, electrical and plumbing system overview
  • Staffing standards and guidelines
  • Right to know, lockout and IAQ requirements
  • Personnel management overview

ADPs & CDFs

For those of you enrolled in the CDF or ADP programs, don't forget the Academy is a requirement for program completion. By attending the Academy, you'll earn 100 points towards your certification or accreditation. Register today!

Familiar Faculty

Academy faculty includes a number of staff from the New York State Education Department, Office of Facilities Planning, led by Director Carl Thurnau, PE; veteran members of SBGA, and others selected for their extensive experience in the trade. Combined, they offer a wealth of prudent information for all levels of facility staff, from maintenance and custodial personnel to directors and superintendents. You won’t want to miss this opportunity to learn from these experts in the school facilities management field.
